New Wave Dermatology Conference Begins

Article

The 2022 New Wave Dermatology Conference started with several workshops and promises to bring a multitude of clinical pearls to the table.

The 2022 New Wave Dermatology Conference happening April 28 through May 1, in Coral Gables, Florida, starts its conference today. The Florida Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants designed this 4-day medical education program to be comprehensive training for physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) in the dermatology field. The website states, “We designed this 4-day comprehensive symposium to increase the knowledge and skill level of practicing dermatology PAs and NPs by offering live didactic sessions, question and answer sessions, as well as hands-on workshops.”

The event started with 4 workshops centered around cosmetic threading, neurotoxins, hands-on surgery, and global facial assessment and injectables. There will be a mix of both aesthetic knowledge and medical dermatology presentations available for the attendees to sit in on.

Some key topics include:

  • Nonsurgical rhinoplasty
  • Skin lightening
  • Autoimmune and bullous disorders
  • Microbiome in skin aging

In a video for Dermatology Times®, Heather Gates, PA-C, vice president of the Florida Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, discussed what she's looking forward to most at the conference.

"A few things I’m very excited to hear about this weekend are…. we have an amazing speaker coming from the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville who is a PA," she said. "She’s a [gynecological oncologist] so she sees that side of dermatology. I’m very excited to see that side of the perspective from outside of dermatology."

She also highlighted her interest in the pediatric dermatology session. "I’m also looking forward to hearing about updates in pediatric dermatology," Gates said. "We have Dr James Treat and Dr Elizabeth Swanson coming to speak. I actually saw Dr James Treat at another conference about 10 years ago and he was one of my favorite speakers of all time so I’m really excited to have him at this conference."

That is only the a few topics on the agenda. To see the full agenda visit the website and make sure to keep up on key conference coverage on DermatologyTimes.com.
