Can contact lens wearers safely use mascara?

Article

Female contact lens wearers commonly wish to use mascara. Mascara is actually the biggest selling colored cosmetic, but can cause problems as it flakes into the eye

Zoe Diana Draelos, MDFemale contact lens wearers commonly wish to use mascara. Mascara is actually the biggest selling colored cosmetic, but can cause problems as it flakes into the eye. To prevent the mascara from breaking into little pieces and flaking into the eye, always use a fresh tube. As the mascara gets old and dries out, it tends to clump and flake on the ends of the eyelashes and enter the eye. Also, only apply the mascara to the tips of the eyelashes and not to the root of the hairs where they exit the skin. This will also prevent mascara from accidentally entering the eye. Always select a water removable mascara for easy soap and water washing.
