Balancing Goals with Patient Satisfaction in Psoriasis

Healthcare professionals discuss the balance between patient satisfaction and clinical goals, emphasizing the importance of individualized treatment approaches.

In this segment, experts discuss balancing clinical ambition with patient satisfaction. In real-world practice, a balance must be struck between the clinical ambition for complete clearance and a patient’s genuine satisfaction with partial improvement. Experts acknowledge that not every patient reaches PASI 100, and that's acceptable. The key is respectful dialogue.

Clinicians may introduce the possibility of newer, more effective or convenient therapies but ultimately respect the patient's choice if they are content. The patient's definition of happiness and quality of life is paramount. If a patient is thrilled with their best state in 20 years, pushing for a switch is unnecessary.

While the treat-to-target philosophy should be broadly promoted to elevate care standards, the fundamental goal is ensuring patients are on effective systemic therapy. Any systemic control provides benefit, even if it falls short of ideal targets. The physician's role is to inform, offer better options, but ultimately partner with the patient on a plan that aligns with their goals and reality.
