Stephanie Simmerman, DNP, APRN-C, led discussions on psoriasis treatment innovations at Maui Derm NP+PA Fall 2025, highlighting NP and PA advancements.

Stephanie Simmerman, DNP, APRN-C, a dermatology nurse practitioner with over 13 years of experience, currently practices at Riverchase Dermatology in Naples, Florida, with a focus on inflammatory skin diseases and skin cancer. At the Maui Derm NP+PA Fall 2025 meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, she served as moderator for the psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis panel, where updates in treatment and management strategies were discussed.1

Simmerman highlighted the growing role of non-steroidal topical therapies in treating psoriasis, especially in sensitive areas or among pediatric and adolescent patients. While topical steroids remain a mainstay, newer innovations offer effective alternatives with fewer limitations. These therapies represent significant progress in patient-centered care, especially for those with more complex or treatment-resistant disease presentations.

Reflecting on the conference itself, Simmerman described the experience as “spectacular.” She emphasized the growing recognition of nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician associates (PAs) within the dermatology community. As a Maui Derm board member and now a faculty participant, she expressed pride in seeing her peers lead sessions and contribute meaningfully to educational efforts, research, and clinical advancement.

“I'm just so happy to see my peer group up there educating our fellow colleagues,” she said.

Outside of clinical and academic work, Simmerman is developing a social media platform aimed at supporting leadership and mentorship for fellow NPs and PAs. Her focus is on fostering operational excellence both professionally and personally, helping healthcare providers maximize their impact at work and in their personal lives.

Looking ahead to 2026, Simmerman is most excited about the continued advancement and visibility of NPs and PAs in dermatology. She noted the expanding presence of advanced practice providers in scholarly publications, industry partnerships, and on conference podiums. Simmerman sees this momentum as a testament to the profession’s growing influence on the future of dermatologic care.

“I'm just so proud of our profession and proud of the opportunities that we're being presented with and the acknowledgement that we really do have a skill set and an ability to really make a tremendous impact, not only on our fellow colleagues but also on patient outcomes,” Simmerman concluded.
