Injections of interferon directly into the lesion may provide cures for a large portion of patients with basal cell carcinoma (BCC), according to a report in the June issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Researchers in Houston evaluated injection of interferon in 50 patients with a total of 98 BCCs, treated from 1985 to 1992. At an average follow-up of 13.5 years (10 years minimum), cures were achieved in 95 of the 98 lesions.
