HPV, shingles vaccines forge ahead

Since its pivotal study, Gardasil has proven safe and effective in a five-year follow-up study, and it can also help women already infected with HPV, says an expert. Meanwhile, he adds, researchers have begun studying the efficacy of the Zostavax shingles virus in patients under 60.
