National report

- The use of biologics is the focus of new psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis management guidelines released by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), HealthDay News reports.

The new guidelines are based on an analysis of scientific studies of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, and were published in the May issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.

The use of biologics in the guidelines are the first phase of the academy's efforts, and the second phase guidelines will provide evidence-based advice for the management of psoriasis with topical therapies, ultraviolet light therapy and systemic nonbiologic therapies, according the HealthDay.
