Day 4 Focuses on Geriatric Care, HS, and Dermatopathology

Saturday's program at Elevate-Derm Summer 2026 highlighted the growing complexity of dermatologic care across patient populations, with sessions dedicated to geriatric dermatology, chronic pruritus, hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), dermatopathology, and skin cancer. Faculty combined practical management strategies with case-based discussions, emphasizing multidisciplinary care and clinical decision-making across a variety of challenging conditions.

Addressing the Unique Needs of Older Adults

The day began with Daniel Butler, MD, who discussed the evaluation and management of chronic pruritus of unknown origin, offering attendees a framework for approaching itch in the absence of an obvious dermatologic diagnosis. Butler then joined Julia Cremer, MD, to review polypharmacy and safe prescribing practices for older adults, highlighting considerations unique to geriatric dermatology. Cremer later expanded on these themes during a session centered on the "5Ms" framework for caring for older patients

HS and Dermatopathology Take Center Stage

The afternoon shifted toward hidradenitis suppurativa, with Jennifer Hsiao, MD, presenting procedural management strategies for the chronic inflammatory disease. Maria Robinson, MD, followed with dermatopathology-focused sessions that used clinical cases to illustrate diagnostic pearls before discussing approaches to reducing unnecessary melanocytic biopsies through clinicopathologic correlation.

Attendees also participated in a SkinSync Live panel exploring the evolving understanding of seborrheic dermatitis, where Buchi Neita, PA-C, and Veronica Richardson, NP, discussed advances in disease mechanisms and patient management.

Advances in Skin Cancer Care Close the Day

The educational program concluded with Ashley Elsensohn, MD, who reviewed current perspectives on hedgehog inhibitors for high-risk nonmelanoma skin cancers alongside updates in immunotherapy, imaging, and molecular tools that continue to shape surgical oncology and dermatologic practice.

Following the day's CME sessions, attendees had opportunities to continue discussions during an interactive HS workshop and additional networking events, reinforcing Elevate-Derm's emphasis on collaboration alongside clinical education.

Looking Ahead to the Final Day

The conference concludes Sunday with sessions on perioperative management in dermatologic surgery, psoriasis treatment selection, cardiovascular considerations in psoriasis, and clinical case lessons from practice, bringing Elevate-Derm Summer 2026 to a close.
