LEADderm Enters Third Year with Focus on Leadership, Values, and Reinvigoration

LEADderm, led by Jennifer Soung, MD, helps dermatologists build leadership, AI readiness, and purpose-driven careers—leaving attendees energized, connected, and patient-focused.

Jennifer Soung, MD, board-certified dermatologist and clinical researcher at Southern California Dermatology in Santa Ana and clinical faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles, discussed the importance of personal and professional development in medicine through her passion project, LEADderm, a dermatology meeting designed to support physicians beyond clinical education.

Now entering its third year, LEADderm focuses on the skills and strategies that help physicians thrive throughout their careers, including leadership, team building, artificial intelligence, professional growth, and creating meaningful patient experiences. Soung explained that while traditional medical meetings often center on clinical updates, she recognized a need for education addressing the broader skills required to become effective leaders and maintain fulfillment in practice.

The meeting is designed not only for early-career physicians but also for dermatologists at any stage who are seeking direction, growth, or renewed motivation. Soung emphasized that leadership is not limited to holding formal positions within professional organizations; rather, it involves how physicians guide their teams, communicate with colleagues, and show up for their patients each day.

This year’s LEADderm theme, “Strong Ground,” focuses on identifying personal values and purpose as a foundation for professional growth. According to Soung, understanding one’s core values allows physicians to move forward with greater clarity, intention, and confidence when making decisions about their careers and practices.

The program will explore topics ranging from emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to practical leadership skills such as inspiring teams, navigating challenges, and developing a professional identity aligned with individual goals. Soung noted that these skills can have a significant impact not only on physicians’ professional lives but also on their ability to provide exceptional patient care.

One of the most meaningful responses Soung has received from attendees is that they leave the meeting feeling refreshed and reinvigorated, with renewed enthusiasm for the next phase of their careers. She hopes LEADderm provides a space where dermatologists can reflect on their goals, connect with peers, and gain tools to continue growing both personally and professionally.

LEADderm will take place August 29 to 30 at the Pendry in Newport Beach, California.
