Allergan Aesthetics has launched an initiative to educate on HA fillers, emphasizing safety and natural results, backed by expert insights and patient satisfaction data.

Today, Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, launched the “Naturally You with Injectable Hyaluronic Acid Fillers” campaign, an initiative aimed at guiding clinicians to educate their patients on hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers.1 The campaign, which is supported by “The Hyaluronic Acid Injectable Fillers Report,” hopes to fight public misinformation and emphasize the safe, natural-looking outcomes associated with HA fillers.

The report, which includes insight from Brittony Croasdell, NP; Lisa Espinoza, MD; Emily Hu, MD; and Terrence Keaney, MD, draws from extensive research, including analysis of consumer and business media, cultural conversations, social trends, expert interviews, and proprietary data from Allergan. With this information, dermatologists are now better able to assess the current use, opinions, and personal experiences around HA injectables.

Data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons shows that HA injectables ranked No. 2 among minimally invasive aesthetic procedures in 2024. In particular, the 40-54 age group accounted for 50% of HA injections last year. Over half of these patients received HA treatments in multiple areas of the face. Furthermore, 46% of health care providers have observed an increased interest in dermal filler over the last 2 years.

Approximately 9 in 10 women expressed that their look was improved, much improved, or very much improved after treatment with HA fillers. Natural-looking results were a top satisfaction point and were a key theme of the report. In fact, 78% of patients strongly agree that today, people want a more natural look. Further key findings regarding patient satisfaction and motivations are as follows:

  • 75% of dermal filler patients are looking to treat wrinkles rather than augment their appearance
  • 76% patients strongly agree that in the future, more people will be using dermal filler
  • 77% of patients strongly agree that it is normal to receive dermal filler injections
  • 79% of dermal filler patients would opt for repeat treatment and are happy to tell friends about any aesthetic treatments they’ve received
  • 82% of patients who have had a consultation about dermal fillers state they’re interested in receiving it in more than one area.
  • 91% of Generation Z and younger millennials believe “provides natural-looking results” is an extremely or very important factor when choosing aesthetic treatments.
  • 97% of patients indicate that they were satisfied or very satisfied with their last HA injectable treatment.

Social media usage was also a key theme in Allergan’s report. It was found that over 2/3 of patients use social media and online videos as a trusted source for information on dermal fillers, and 69% of health care providers see social media channels as an important source of information for patients considering HA injectables. However, only 1% of the 2.7 million digital conversations around dermal fillers in the U.S. discuss HA injectables specifically.2

"Our goal with ‘Naturally You with Injectable Hyaluronic Acid Fillers’ campaign is to set the record straight on hyaluronic acid injectable fillers for our healthcare providers, our patients, and the category,” Glen Curran, Senior Vice President of US Aesthetics at Allergan, said in a statement. “By providing facts, real-world satisfaction data, and expert insights, we hope to truly show how HA fillers are a safe and effective way to address aesthetic concerns.”1

To support this, Allergan plans to work closely with health care providers and consumer influencers to further amplify accurate education on HA fillers. “The Hyaluronic Acid Injectable Fillers Report” is the first installment in the company's Aesthetics Evolution Report Series and can now be downloaded at www.naturallyyouwithHA.com
