The 2023 Society for Pediatric Dermatology Annual Meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, begins July 13 and ends on July 16. There is so much to do in this beautiful mountain town that you might need an extra day.

1. River Rafting on the French Broad River

Whether you are new to rafting or consider yourself a seasoned rafter, the French Broad offers full- and half-day trips for everyone and all ages. Enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery while floating down the 3rd oldest river in the world.

2. Visit the Biltmore Estate

The 250-year-old castle once belonged to George Vanderbilt. You can explore the castle and grounds on your own or book a tour. Biltmore is also home to the nation’s most-visited winery. Reservations are required to visit the estate.

3. Hike the Blue Ridge Mountains

Within a short drive of Asheville you can find hundreds of hiking trails to lead you to waterfalls or through dense forests. Whether you are looking for a strenuous day hike or a relaxing hour strolling through the mountains, you can find it in the thousands of miles of trails that twist through the Blue Ridge.

4. Golfing in Asheville

Asheville’s mountain location offers golfers a unique experience that other courses cannot duplicate. Enjoy spectacular scenery at one of the more than 40 championship courses within an hour’s drive of the area.

5. Shopping in Asheville

Asheville offers visitors several different options for shopping, so whether you want to find one-of-a-kind ceramics or a North Carolina t-shirt, you can find it around town. Visit downtown Asheville and you will find unique boutiques, souvenir shops, and art galleries. If you want to hit the outlet stores, Asheville Outlets offers more than 70 name brand shops.

6. Drive Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

The 469-mile road stretches from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. Frequent, paved overlooks offer expansive views of the mountains. You can find access to hiking and biking trails. The parkway is easy to explore and has no admission fee.
