Las Vegas - Eugene Van Scott, M.D., and Ruey Yu, O.M.D., Ph.D., will be awarded the first Innovators in Cosmetic Dermatology Award during the 2010 meeting of the Cosmetic Surgery Forum here Dec. 2-4.

The two will be recognized for their previous work indicating the benefits of alpha hydroxyacids (AHAs) on human skin.

Creators of NeoStrata Company, Drs. Van Scott and Yu are internationally recognized for their work with AHAs, says Joel Schlessinger, M.D., F.A.A.D., F.A.A.C.S., a board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon and founder of the Cosmetic Surgery Forum.

The researchers’ initial work with AHAs took place in the 1970s (Van Scott, E.J.; Yu, R.J. Control of keratinization with alpha hydroxy acids and related compounds. Arch Dermatol. 1974;110(4):586-590).

“Their passion and vision led to their subsequent research, which established AHAs are not only beneficial in the treatment of dermatological conditions, but are also effective in stimulating prematurely aged or damaged skin to actually rejuvenate itself, thereby revolutionizing the treatment of aging skin,” Dr. Schlessinger says.

Dr. Schlessinger will present the award to the researchers during the Cosmetic Surgery Forum.
