Allergan Announces CoolSculpting Elite Device

Article

Allergan announces the launch of Coolsculpting Elite, along with seven new C-shaped applicators.

Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, recently announced the launch of CoolSculpting Elite, its next generation fat-reduction system. Including applicators for the body’s natural curves, the new system uses CoolSculpting technology to target, freeze and eliminate treated fat cells and is FDA-approved to treat fat on the thighs, abdomen, flank, bra fat, back fat, underneath the buttocks, upper arms, and submental and submandibular areas.

"The number one aesthetic concern for consumers is excess body fat,” says Carrie Strom, senior vice president, AbbVie, and president, Global Allergan Aesthetics, in the press release announcing the system. “CoolSculpting has been an industry-leader, creating the market for non-invasive fat reduction over 10 years ago. Now CoolSculpting Elite builds on that heritage with a completely re-invented next-generation technology that delivers results. We understand the challenges of today's world and as people prepare to go from being online to spending more time in person, CoolSculpting Elite can help them address their bothersome fat."

In addition to the new system, CoolSculpting Elite will also launch with seven new applicators of different shapes and sizes. The applicators, which are C-shapes, are designed to work with the body’s curves for an improved fit and more comfort during initial tissue draw. It features an 18% larger cooling area compared to previous generations.

The clinical significance of this data has not yet been established, according to the release.

"CoolSculpting is a critical part of my business and a device I've relied on to help my patients achieve their desired outcome of reducing stubborn fat," says Dr. Sabrina Fabi, board certified dermatologist and associate research director at Cosmetic Laser Surgery in San Diego, Calif., in the release. "The dual applicators allow us to treat two areas at the same time, safely freezing twice the fat compared to using a single CoolSculpting applicator, which helps us save on time. With the Elite applicator collection, we are able to treat a wide range of body areas and personalize each patient's treatment plan."

The company is currently taking orders for CoolSculpting Elite, with the first units shipping in Q1 of 2021.
