Mississauga, Ontario - Covalon Technologies has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for CovaClear Ag™, a hydrated collagen dressing that contains antimicrobial silver.

Officials of Mississauga-based Covalon Technologies said CovaClear Ag™ is the only hydrated collagen-based silver ion-releasing dressing on the market, and that the dressing provides a moist environment known to improve the wound-healing process and reduce scarring.

The officials said the silver ion is a broad-spectrum antiseptic that serves as an antimicrobial barrier, and that because the dressing is transparent, clinicians can monitor high-risk wounds without having to remove the dressing.
