Facts and Trends in Hair Restoration
A snapshot of notable facts and trends in hair restoration based on the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery's latest member survey.

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) recently released the results of their Practice Census survey, showing a steady increase of patients seeking treatment for hair restoration, growing 13% overall from 2016 to 2019.
ISHRS’s notable facts and trends for 2019 include:
- ISHRS members treated a higher percentage of men with surgical hair restoration procedures (84.2%) than women (15.8%)
- More than half of both male and female surgical patients worldwide fell between the ages of 30 to 49 (57.5% and 55.6%, respectively)
- Body hair transplantation remains popular:
15% of male procedures were performed on non-scalp areas of the body (beards/moustaches accounted for 5%)
18% of female procedures were performed on non-scalp areas of the body (eyebrows accounted for 12%)
- “Social/Dating” (37%) and “Career/Professional” (35%) were the main reasons for seeking hair restoration
- ISHRS physicians have been practicing hair restoration for an average of 16 years and 55% of members devote 76% to 100% of their practices to hair restoration surgery
- Brad Pitt and Eva Longoria were voted best celebrity hair by ISHRS members
