What is a BB cream?

Article

BB creams came to the US from the Orient where they have been the rage for the past 3 years.

Zoe Diana Draelos, MDBB creams came to the US from the Orient where they have been the rage for the past 3 years.  BB stands for beauty balm.  The idea was to create a lightweight slightly tinted sunscreen-containing cream to provide in one product the benefits of a moisturizer, facial foundation, and sunscreen.  For years, the cosmetic industry trend was to create products with very specific functions that were to be used as part of a multistep regimen.

The BB cream reversed this trend and now many products are being introduced that are multifunctional.  This saves time for the consumer who can apply all of the necessary ingredients for healthy skin simultaneously and it also eliminates the confusion regarding which product should be applied first.  Finally, this trend speaks to the cost savings many consumers are looking for in light of the recession.
