Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.1 Derived from tomatoes, Lycomato is a nutrient complex that contains standardized levels of carotenoids, including lycopene (15 mg), phytoene, and phytofluene.

The open-label study involved 50 women between the ages of 35 and 55 with Fitzpatrick skin types II, III, and IV. The participants took soft gels containing 15mg of lycopene daily for 12 weeks. Their skin status was observed via questionnaires and expert visual grading of facial markers such as wrinkles, tonality, roughness, laxity, and pore size. Skin barrier was assessed using transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Visual assessments were performed by a trained expert grader at a testing laboratory, who obtained measurements before treatment and after 4 and 12 weeks of use.

The study results after 4 and 12 weeks, respectively were:

  • An average reduction of 7.2% and 8.9% (p < 0.05) in TEWL of facial skin, indicating a significant improvement in skin barrier after 12 weeks of use.
  • 25% and 41.4% reduction of periorbital fine lines
  • 14.8% and 26% reduction of periorbital deeper wrinkles
  • 7.9% (p < 0.05) and 13.5% (p < 0.001) improvement in skin brightness and luminosity
  • 11.14% (p < 0.05) and 18.3% (p < 0.001) improvement in skin tone

Study participants also observed improvements in the self-assessment stage, reporting improvement in all perimeters after 4 weeks, and increasing after 12 weeks. Study authors concluded that the supplement improved the visual appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, skin tonality, pores, smoothness, and firmness.
