Keep vaccines in mind for patients with psoriasis

Dermatologists need to keep vaccinations in mind when treating patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, according to the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF).

It’s extremely important that psoriasis patients whose immune systems have been suppressed by biologic drugs are current with all their vaccinations, according to a report published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Many adults with psoriasis are behind on vaccinations, according to the report, according to the NPF.

“The Medical Board’s report makes specific recommendations for routine vaccines based on whether the patient is taking a systemic drug that suppresses the immune system, and calls for further study into the safety and effectiveness of specific vaccines in people with compromised immunity.”
