The American Academy of Dermatology Association’s board of directors has unanimously approved a position statement on anatomic pathology billing.
The AADA’s position statement affirms the right to bill for one’s own work; affirms the principle of freedom of choice of dermatopathology consultants; supports the value of dermatology office labs; and expresses concern about ethical and legal propriety of several practices that place maximizing revenue over patient welfare.
“This statement establishes a strong position on the wide variety of pathology arrangements that exist today,” Daniel M. Siegel, M.D., former AADA president said in a statement. “Members can use this guidance to ensure that they are practicing in the most appropriate way.”
